Don’t fake it till you make it

A common axiom is “Fake it till you make it“.

I disagree, and here’s why.

Your body knows the truth. Your hearth knows the truth.

“Fake it till you make it“ relies on your body forgetting what it knows over time and repetition of you “faking it”.

This is psychologically forcing your will upon your heart. This is unhealthy.

Instead, discover the things that convince your inner self of the new truth you would like to create.

If you want to workout more, begin by adopting the persona of a workout person, whatever that looks like to you. After paying for a gym membership, go and don’t workout.

Just go and spend time there taking in the atmosphere. Do that once a week for a month.

Then choose one thing to do. let’s say the treadmill. Walk for 20 minutes, and go home. That’s it.

Pretty soon, you will have convinced your inner self that you are now this new person.

The point is: You aren’t trying to skate uphill.
